When illness changes everyday life

More than physical health

A diagnosis, a chronic illness or persistent pain can affect much more than physical health. They can change the relationship with the body, with rest, with relationships, and with the way we live day to day.

Sometimes there is tension, uncertainty, emotional exhaustion, difficulty sleeping or the feeling of having to stay strong for others. At other times it can be hard to know what you need, or to find a space of your own in the middle of everything that is happening.

"You do not need to demonstrate resilience or find the right words."

Our sessions offer a space of accompaniment where you can pause, listen to how you are, and participate at your own pace — with no pressure to share or to achieve any particular outcome.

Who we support

For people
in process

Sessions are designed for people navigating a period of high emotional and physical demand. There is no requirement to be at any specific stage of the process.

The only condition is the wish to be present.

People with an oncological diagnosis — at any stage: following diagnosis, during treatment, in remission or follow-up.

People with chronic illness — autoimmune, neurological, cardiac or other conditions that involve a sustained process of adaptation over time.

People living with chronic pain — fibromyalgia, neuropathic pain, chronic migraine or other forms of persistent pain that affect the relationship with the body and everyday life.

Caregivers and companions — family members, partners or close people who support someone who is ill and need their own space for regulation.

People in illness-related grief — who have experienced the loss of a loved one and are in a process of integration.

What happens in each session

A recognisable rhythm,
without rigid structure

Each session lasts 90 minutes. There is nothing to do correctly. You are not asked to speak, to move in a particular way, or to hold any posture. The only requirement is presence.

01 — Opening

Guided breathing

The session begins with a guided conscious breathing practice led by Irene. It activates the parasympathetic nervous system and prepares the body to receive the experience with reduced physiological resistance.

02 — Centre

Live music

Davide and Irene perform live music — voice and acoustic instruments — in a listening environment. The music is not entertainment but a vehicle for somatic regulation through the nervous system's auditory response.

03 — Close

Silence and presence

Each session closes with a brief space of attended silence. There is no obligatory verbal processing. Those who wish to share may do so; those who prefer to remain in silence may also do so.

"Many people describe the feeling of being able to breathe out fully for the first time in weeks. A body that has not been able to let its guard down — finds, for a moment, that it can."

An approach informed by research

Complementary resources
grounded in evidence

Conscious breathing, body awareness and music-based interventions have been studied as complementary resources for wellbeing and stress management.

Research on slow breathing suggests it can influence certain measures of heart rate variability, associated with autonomous cardiovascular regulation. Studies on music interventions in people with cancer also suggest possible benefits in areas such as anxiety, although the quality of evidence varies.

These findings help to contextualise the practices we use, but do not allow us to predict how each person will respond or to claim that any given session will modify their physiological state.

At Atma & Dharma we integrate conscious breathing, guided meditation, deep listening and live music into a complementary accompaniment experience. We do not promise clinical outcomes: we offer a carefully held space for you to explore what helps you be present and relate to your experience in a gentler way.

For those who care

Caregivers also need
a space of their own.

Caring for someone who is ill means sustained exposure to situations of high emotional demand. The caregiver's nervous system also accumulates load: chronic stress, sleep deprivation, suppression of one's own needs.

Sessions are open to caregivers and companions independently of whether the person who is ill also attends. This is a space for you — not for managing the care of another person more effectively.

Signs of caregiver burden

Difficulty switching off even when you have free time. A sense of not having permission to feel well while another is suffering. Exhaustion that does not ease with rest. Irritability you do not recognise as your own.

Sessions offer a regulated interval with no requirement for productivity or result.

Format

Small groups.
Real presence.

Group size is not a logistical matter but a therapeutic one. Co-regulation only occurs in environments where safety is perceived by the nervous system — not merely stated verbally.

Who we are

The person guiding
matters as much as the method.

The environment of safety that enables regulation does not come from the techniques alone. It comes from the coherence between what is offered and who offers it.

Breathing & Meditation

Irene Sales Pardó

Certified conscious breathing and meditation teacher. Trained in applied neuroscience for wellbeing and in the somatic approach to emotional regulation. She works with people who seek evidence-based tools for navigating periods of high demand.

Her approach starts from the premise that the body holds its own regulatory resources — resources that can be activated, not installed from outside.

Music & Voice

Pier Davide Angelini

Musician with classical training and experience in composition and performance. His work integrates the somatic dimension of musical experience: sound as a modulator of physiological state, not merely an aesthetic object.

He has developed a specific musical language for deep listening environments — distinct from the concert setting or ambient sound: acoustic presence that accompanies without directing.

Yes. Sessions are designed for people at any stage of the process. If you have questions about whether this is suitable for your specific situation, write to us before signing up.

No. It is not therapy and does not replace medical or psychological treatment. It is a support space through aesthetic and somatic experience. If you are in therapy, sessions can complement your process; if you are not, they do not replace it.

A maximum of 10 people. The small size is not simply a matter of comfort: it is what allows the environment of safety to be genuine and for co-regulation to occur.

Sessions take place in Barcelona, online or in person. The exact location and next available dates are shared upon confirming attendance. Write to us and we will let you know.

No. You can attend a single session. If the format resonates, you can continue attending. There is no commitment or compulsory programme of stages.

Yes. The Connection Session is free and lets you get to know the space with no commitment. If you decide to keep attending, the following sessions work on the conscious contribution model (€15 / €25 / €40) shown above — you choose the level that fits your situation, with no need to justify it.

From knowledge to experience

The body has its own regulation mechanisms.
This space aims to create the conditions for them to activate.

Science shows that the body has its own regulatory mechanisms. But those mechanisms need specific conditions to activate: perceived safety, presence without demand, an environment where the nervous system can step out of threat mode.
